To celebrate my 33 1/3 birthday (1/3 of a century, woot!) I dyed my hair for the first time.

I chose auburn because I thought I could pull it off (I'd look really weird as a blonde!), and a lady from my church dyed and cut it Thursday night. As it turns out, virgin hair is very hard to dye. It has to be damaged before it can accept a new color. So the first time through, Cindy used the color Cherry Cola, and added copper highlights along the top of my head. It set for about 20 minutes, and then she rinsed out the color. The highlights looked pretty, but you could hardly see any red. So, after cutting and blow-drying my hair, she added a lot more red (mainly Rocket Red this time, a much brighter red), and I sat under the dryer about twice as long, to soak up the color. It came out much better that time, and the new red over the copper highlights looks very pretty (and subtle). I took pictures in a variety of lighting conditions, both last night and this morning. It's a semipermanent color, meaning that it will fade over the next couple of months, rather than growing out and leaving a sharp line along my scalp. All in all, I think it's a nice starter color. :)
